Project Description

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is updating the Southeast Alaska Transportation Plan (SEATP) to guide transportation improvements over the next 20 years. The plan:

  • Considers both intercommunity travel and local transportation needs
  • Addresses all modes of transportation, including roads, ferries, airports, trails, and marine facilities
  • Identifies regional priorities and potential projects to meet those needs
  • Helps inform the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and the Aviation Improvement Program (AIP)
  • Covers the Southeast Alaska planning area, which is characterized by unique geography and a reliance on diverse transportation modes

Planning Area

The planning area, shown in the figure below, is located in Southeast Alaska and reflects the region’s unique geographic features and reliance on ferries, aviation, and surface transportation.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by DOT&PF pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated April 13, 2023, and executed by FHWA and DOT&PF.
