State Project No. SFHWY00533/ Federal Project No. 000330

Project Description

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is updating the Southeast Alaska Transportation Plan (SEATP), a 20-year area focused multimodal transportation plan that will guide future public investments in transportation infrastructure in the Southeast Alaska Area.

The plan aims to improve mobility for residents, goods, and services throughout Southeast Alaska, considering the area's specific transportation needs and challenges. It includes various transportation modes, such as aviation, waterways (ferries and watercraft), and surface transportation (roads, highways, and non-motorized transportation), as well as trails and easements for access.

Project History

The Southeast Alaska Transportation Plan (SEATP) was first published in 1980 and subsequently successfully updated in 1986, 1999, and 2004 as part of the Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan. The approved 2004 SEATP is available here.

Planning documents related to the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) can be found using the AMHS Long-Range Plan StoryMap.

Planning Area

The planning area is located in Southeast Alaska, an area known for its unique geographic features and reliance on diverse transportation modes such as ferries, aviation, and surface transportation.
